About Me |
Hi! My name is Veer and I am a first-year medical student at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in Long Island, NY. In terms of specialty interests, I am currently undecided and keeping an open mind, but I am attracted to the variety of fellowship opportunities within internal medicine. Beyond my primary pursuits in patient care, I am also interested in tangential aspects of healthcare such as health policy, informatics, and administration. I have a particular interest in “upstream medicine,” which is the notion that non-clinical social and structural factors – where we live, work, and play – directly determines the health outcomes of individuals and perpetuates health disparities among communities. My hope is to leverage my clinical skillset, as well as my undergraduate training in inequality and policy management, to facilitate and improve health outcomes in such communities. As the first in my family to pursue medicine in the United States, I understand how overwhelming and unfamiliar the process of planning and applying to medical school can be. My goals for this program are 1. to meet my mentee wherever they are in the process and 2. to be available for them anytime, anywhere so that they can put their best foot forward in pursuing their ultimate dream. I’m so excited and can’t wait to meet you all!
